Stags
The stag has always been a popular motif in art. For me it started to be interesting when I decided to work on the subject "my homeland". As a German-Spanish artist I have always lived in two cultures. The Black Forest has become my German homeland. The stag and the Bollenhut pompom hat, both symbols of the Black Forest, are part of my work. The series bedroom stags, all painted on bedding, ironically recall the ancient pictures of roaring deer that used to hang in many (German) homes above the bed. The deer is a symbol of power, freedom and masculinity, but also of innocence and purity.
